Privacy Policy

Nova Bible ("Nova", "we") is a Bible reading app for iOS and the website novabible.app. This policy describes what data we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the app, we don't show ads, and we never sell your data.

Data we collect in the app

  • Account information. When you first open Nova we create an anonymous account so your data can sync. If you create an account with email, Google, or Apple, we store your email address, the name shared by the sign-in provider, and account identifiers through Firebase Authentication.
  • Your content. Highlights and notes you create are stored in Cloud Firestore, tied to your account, so they sync across your devices.
  • App configuration. The app fetches remote configuration through Firebase Remote Config, which involves standard device identifiers and metadata.
  • Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used (for example, when a reading plan is created or completed), tied to your account identifier. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and we don't use it for ads or tracking across other apps. See Google's privacy policy for how Google processes this data.
  • Crash and performance reports. If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a diagnostic report (device model, OS version, stack trace) so we can fix it. Firebase Performance Monitoring similarly reports timing data such as app launch and network request duration. Neither is tied to your identity.
  • iCloud. A single flag noting whether you've signed in before is kept in your private iCloud key-value storage, so a new device can show the right sign-in screen. We can't read it.

Data we collect on the website

We use PostHog to understand how the site is used (pages visited, approximate location, device type).

Nova Bible in ChatGPT and Claude

You can create reading plans with Nova Bible inside AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. This works without an account: the assistant sends us only the plan options (what to read, for how long, the translation, and the start date), and we return the schedule. We don't receive your conversation or any identity information, and we don't store the plans. Our server monitoring (AppSignal) may record technical request data to diagnose errors. Your conversation itself is handled by the assistant's provider under its own privacy policy.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, and no ad tracking.
  • We never sell or rent your personal data.
  • We only share data with the service providers that run Nova: Google Firebase (authentication, database, configuration, analytics, crash reporting), API.Bible (Scripture content delivery), Apple (sign-in and iCloud), PostHog (website analytics), and Vercel (website hosting).

Data retention and deletion

Your highlights and notes are kept until you delete them or delete your account. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data inside the app at Menu → Account → Delete account. If you never created an account, Menu → Delete my data removes the anonymous account and everything stored under it. You can also email us at support@novabible.app and we'll delete it for you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and Brazil's LGPD), you have the right to access, correct, export, and erase your personal data. Write to us and we'll help.

Children

Nova is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with Google Firebase, which maintains industry-standard security certifications. Access to your content is restricted to your account.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes we'll update this page and the effective date above.
