Bible MCP server for reading plans

Nova Bible has a free, public MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that builds Bible reading plans inside your conversation with Claude or any other AI assistant that supports MCP. Tell it what you want to read and how much time you have, and you get a day-by-day schedule.

What you can ask

  • "Create a plan to read the New Testament in 90 days"
  • "I have 15 minutes a day. How long would it take to read the whole Bible?"
  • "Plan Genesis, Exodus, and Psalms by December 31, skipping Sundays"

You can plan the whole Bible, either testament, the Gospels, Psalms and Proverbs, or any books you pick, in your own order. Set the length as a number of days, a finish date, or minutes per day, and leave out the weekdays you don't read. Plans work with NIV, KJV, CSB, NASB, NLT, NKJV, and NVT (Portuguese).

How plans are made

Days are balanced by reading time. Each chapter is weighted by its word count, so a day with long chapters gets fewer of them, and a very long chapter like Psalm 119 is split across days. Every plan shows the estimated minutes per day, the total number of chapters, and the finish date. Plans list Bible references only, not Scripture text.

Add it to Claude

  1. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Nova Bible and enter this URL: https://api.novabible.app/mcp/claude
  4. For authentication, choose No sign-in, then click Add.
  5. Start a new chat and ask for a reading plan.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector for the organization. Once Nova Bible is listed in Claude's connector directory, you'll also be able to find it there by name.

Other MCP clients

Any app that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect to https://api.novabible.app/mcp. No sign-in or API key is needed. The server has three tools:

  • create_reading_plan: builds a plan from the books, length, and translation you choose
  • list_translations: lists the available Bible translations
  • list_books: lists the books of a translation with their codes and chapter counts

Following your plan

Nova Bible for iPhone uses the same planning engine, so the same options give you the same schedule in the app. There you get a daily reminder at the time you choose, and you can adjust the plan in two taps if you fall behind.

Privacy

You don't need an account. The assistant sends us only the plan options (what to read, for how long, the translation, and the start date). We don't receive your conversation, and we don't store the plans. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Troubleshooting

  • If the assistant answers without using Nova Bible, ask it directly: "Use Nova Bible to create the plan."
  • Plans can't run longer than 10 years or have more reading days than verses. If you get one of those errors, change the length or the daily time.
  • For anything else, email support@novabible.app.
